when i come back from night out getting honour the guild is under attack and all the npc's except for the gaurds have dissapeared, this has happened on 4 of my worlds D:

Basically what ^he^ said, but here's a more concise and precise explanation.
If the Reficules attack the Guild, your Guild Master should start to follow you, wherever you are. If you right-click on him, he'll give you an iron sword. (If you log out and back in again, and right-click on him again, you'll get an iron sword again! I got 3 iron swords from him, 'cos I closed Minecraft and opened it again, and right-clicked on him!) When all the Reficules are defeated, right-click on him. If he says 'There are still some more,' there probably are. They're just hidden like outside the Guild or upstairs somewhere. If they really are all gone, right-click on him, and he'll say Good Job. Then you have to get 64 wood. If you already have 64 wood, he'll say Well Done, and right-click on him again when you want to repair it. (Warning/Reminder: If you stored stuff in the chests in or near the Guild, it will disappear after you repair the guild.) After you repair it, restart Minecraft and all the NPCs should be back. Simple! I hope it works out.

What to do if your Guild Master is killed in the attack[]
If you go in Creative, there should be Spawn Eggs. One of the Spawn Eggs should be the Guild Master.
You can just Spawn him in, and then go back to Survival mode.
(PS, this also works if you lost your Inn-Keeper or other NPC's)
